STATEMENT OF INTENT: Pendu, Inc. is a nonprofit arts and culture organization. Our mission is to increase public awareness of culturally-significant work from visual artists, performers, and writers that are often marginalized and overlooked. We create a dialogue with the public through our magazine, record label, and webstore as well as through creative productions, art shows, workshops, and music events in various spaces throughout NYC.

SHORT HISTORY: Pendu, Inc. was founded by Todd Pendu Brooks, a curator, visual artist, writer, performer, graphics designer, tarot reader. Pendu’s origins begin in 1997 with the founding of Disillusion Records which released only one CD, a various artists compilation called “The 49th Parallel” featuring 12 DIY HC bands; 6 from the US and 6 from Canada. In late 2000, Disillusion Records was renamed as Transition Media in conjunction with a vision for a website covering visual arts and music. In March 2005, Transition Media was re-christened officially as Pendu, Inc. A new website was launched in November 2005 and it has continued to grow ever since. In February 2009, Pendu filed paperwork to apply for nonprofit 501 (c)(3) status.

This Symbol (left) used in all of our online and print materials originates from Alchemy. It is the symbol used by the alchemist to signfy the MAGNUM OPUS or the “Completed Work”. It is related in shape to the figure in the “Hanged-Man” card of the Tarot (aka “Le Pendu” in French).
